ARCH ENEMY's ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ Says Fans Have Been 'Really Supportive' Following Singer Change
November 19, 2014On October 24, Metal Mark of SkullsNBones.com conducted an interview with vocalist Alissa White-Gluz of Swedish / Canadian / American metallers ARCH ENEMY. You can now watch the chat below.
ARCH ENEMY played its first show with White-Gluz on May 23 at Turbohalle in Bucharest, Romania. Angela Gossow, who joined ARCH ENEMY in 2000 and made her debut on the now-classic "Wages Of Sin" (2001),stepped down as the band's frontwoman and is focusing on the group's management, while Alissa is taking her place.
Asked how the fan response has been to the latest ARCH ENEMY album, "War Eternal", Alissa said: "I've worked as a singer in metal bands for over ten years now, so I've definitely kind of put in my time building that underground family, that underground, loyal fan base. And with ARCH ENEMY, it's like a big family too — the crew, from the management side, in the band. We're all working on a common goal, and that goal is to bring great music to as many people as possible. And because of that, we made sure that we were doing everything the way that it would be best for the fans and also for everyone involved. So there was never any negativity with Angela deciding to leave or anything like that. It was just, like, she wanted to retire from the stage, she found a solution so that the band could keep going and she'll still manage. And we wanted to make sure that with the fans, they would understand that also; we didn't wanna just throw it out there like it didn't matter, because, obviously, that's the end of an era and the beginning of a new era. And so that's why we had 'War Eternal' totally finished and ready to present. And I think it's amazing that the fans have been really supportive. 'Cause from my perspective, I base things on the music; if the music is good, I don't care [about the other stuff]. But I know that sometimes it's hard to let go of certain things, and I'm really glad that the fans actually took the time to give our music the proper listen it deserves and judge us based on that."
ARCH ENEMY's new album, "War Eternal", sold around 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 44. The CD was released on June 10 in North America via Century Media Records. The cover artwork was created by Costin Chioreanu.
ARCH ENEMY last week parted ways with guitarist Nick Cordle and replaced him with Jeff Loomis (ex-NEVERMORE). Loomis will make his live debut with ARCH ENEMY on the band's upcoming European tour, which kicks off November 26.
